December 23, 2016

January 5, 1921-December 23, 2016

Ruth MacKendrick passed away peacefully on December 23 in her home in Comox, BC. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Mo (Allan Morrison) of Comox and her son, Harry (Judy) of Edmonton. Nana will be sadly missed by her grandson Callum (Andrea Schibler) and granddaughter Norah (Robert Field), her four great grandsons, William and Martin Field and the twins Jamie and Rowan MacKendrick. She was predeceased by her husband James Harry to whom she was married 60 years and a day.

Born in Delisle, Saskatchewan, she grew up in Saskatoon. She was a graduate of the class of 4T4 (1944), Occupational Therapy, the University of Toronto, and joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps serving overseas and in Canada. After her marriage to Jamie, she shared 22 years as a military wife, then lived 21 years in the Northwest Territories. For 16 of those years, she was an editor of the NWT Legislative Assembly Hansard. In 1990, they retired to North Saanich, BC. Her final happy years were at Berwick Comox Valley.

She will be remembered fondly by her family, her friends around the country, and to the younger friends in the Comox Valley for her delightful sense of humour, her graciousness and her love.

Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Neufeld, the Island Health Home and Community Care, Comox nursing team and to the staff of Berwick for their support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one's choice in Ruth's name. By her request there will be no memorial service.
