March 3, 1950 - December 23, 2019
Sandi was born March 3, 1950 in Abbotsford and passed away December 23, 2019 in Comox. Her younger years were spent on the family farm in Matsqui and left her with a lifelong love of animals, nature and the farming life. On the farm she developed a deep connection to her parents, her five brothers and her extended family, which she worked hard to maintain all her life. After attending UBC, Sandi began working for the Department of Social Welfare in Abbotsford, through which she met Mike, her future husband and the love of her life, on a work ski trip. A job transfer took them to New Denver, BC, where their two children, Wendy and Brad were born.
After four years they were lucky enough to transfer to the beautiful Comox Valley. While her children were young, Sandi was a dedicated and loving stay at home mother and wife. Over her working career she held various business administration and accounting positions, culminating as the Office Administrator at Comox Valley Children's Daycare Society.
Sandi wasn't a "joiner," but was active as a volunteer with a number of community groups, from Little League to childcare, to the Old Church Theatre Society, and the Comox United Church, where she was a member for more than 30 years. She served there in various capacities including board member, committee member, and treasurer. Among her many interests were gourmet cooking, baking, making her famous blackberry jelly, quilting and sewing, doing varied sorts of puzzles, travelling (China, Europe, Australia, BC, the Maritimes, Ontario and Quebec), reading, and listening to music.
Sandi was kind, compassionate, and loving. She was quiet, thoughtful, and wise. When she spoke, she always had something meaningful to say. She was unfailingly alert to others who were in need and ready to offer support and a caring, listening ear. She was a great hostess and especially enjoyed participating in any sort of activity with family and friends. In her last four years she experienced immense joy in being a grandmother to Moira.
Sandi was predeceased by her parents Olive and Alexander Inglis, and grandson baby Michael Stewart. Sandi is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael N. Stewart, her daughter Wendy Stewart-Fox (Trevor), son Bradley Stewart (Cassandra) and granddaughter Moira Wendy Stewart. Sandi also leaves behind her beloved brothers, Allan, Neil (Beth), Norman (Jean), Terry, Kelly (Beth) Inglis and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to the Comox Valley (or your local) Food Bank, or to Dawn to Dawn - Action on Homelessness Society, in Sandi's name are appreciated.
