Shirley Marie Cronan B.Ed.

November 18,1940 - February 23, 2015

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley Marie Cronan (nee Kurdziel) at the RJH in Victoria. Shirl is survived by her husband Allan of 52 years, numerous friends, cousins, brother Barrie of Delta, niece Lindell and nephews Joseph and Thomas and her pet “Zippy Lou” of 15 years.

Born in Portage La Prairie, Shirl spent her formative years in Prince Rupert and lived in Fort Norman, Hay River, and Coppermine, in the NWT; Langley City, Spences Bridge, Hazelton, Pitt Meadows (from where she attended SFU); Ottawa and Mississauga, before retiring from a career in Real Estate and moving to the Comox Valley in 1995.

Shirl received recognition from the RCMP as an “Unpaid Man” for the assistance she provided to her husband at the isolated postings.

Shirl’s passions were gardening, the view from the comfort of her water front home, piano, crosswords-suduko, reading, travelling and maintaining close friendships she had developed over the years. A very intelligent thinker whose strength, determination and class created an indelible memory of a very beautiful person with a mind of her own.

“Let the world know I am leaving very angry. I did not invite cancer into my body. The treatment of chemo and radiation were pure hell. Please let the Funeral Homes and the News Papers know that no one in their right mind passes away peacefully. The Obits are dressed with pleasantries to place death in a nice comfort zone.”

No service by request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Shirl’s honour.
