Rees, Shirley (nee Gyves) - passed away peacefully on November 10, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Extended Care Unit in Comox, BC, in her 71st year. She was born on January 14, 1932 in Victoria, BC to Caroline and Michael Gyves, where she grew up on Saltspring Island. She attended Saint Anne’s Academy from 1947-1950.
She worked at BCFP for eight years where she met her husband Chris. Shirley also worked at Glendale Lodge for eighteen years.
She was predeceased by her husband Christopher, parents, Caroline and Michael, and sister Deena Sanderson.
Survived by sisters: Valerie Gyves, Dorothy Dodds, and Phyllis Russell. Shirley will be sadly missed by her children: Kim (Russell) Beauregard, Anne-Marie (David) Freer, Karin (Wayne) Thompson, Odette Rees (Leroy) Mitchell, Patrice (Tracee) Rees; seven grandchildren, and many friends and relatives. Prayers were offered at MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, on Sunday November 16, 2003 at 3pm. Funeral mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 798 Goldstream Avenue, on Monday Nov. 17, 2003 at 11:00am. Father Swavek, celebrant. Cremation entrusted to Royal Oak Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to E.C.U. at St Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, B.C.
