It is with great sadness that the family of Sidney announce his passing at the age of 88. He is survived by Joy, his loving wife of 66 years; his children, Lesley (Stu), Sidney, Peter (Linda), Laura (Gerald) and David; his grandchildren, Kelly, Heidi, Jason, Justine and Jeremy; and his great- grandchildren, Kieran, Brooke, Eva, Cole, Hudson, Jared and Summer. He also leaves a brother and sister in England, Ronald and Wendy.
Sid was born in London, England with St. Jame's Park as his playground. He was evacuated during the war with his mother and siblings to the country for safety, but Sid was having none of that and managed to persuade his mum to let him return to London to brave the bombs with his dad. At the age of 18, he served for two years in the Korean War before returning to start work for the telephone company (GPO) and meeting and marrying Joy. In 1964 he immigrated to Canada with his young family, landing first in Victoria and shortly thereafter moving to Courtenay for a job with BC Tel, where he continued to work until his retirement.
Sid liked a good laugh and his various exploits brought much amusement (and some consternation) to his family. In his younger years he was an excellent cyclist and traveled many miles every day to work. Interested in the world around him, he was always up for a lively debate. Sid enjoyed reading, gardening, woodworking, a game of chess and daily walks with Joy, chatting with many along the way.
Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and he will be lovingly remembered and forever missed.
