Hanham - Stanley Alfred, age 91 of Comox, BC passed away December 19, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, after a short illness. he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth B. Hanham, a daughter Blair Covington and her husband David, four grandchildren, David Covington Jr., William Covington, Bonnie Covington Matlack and Jennifer Covington. Four great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren and a niece Stella Pasziewicz.

Mr. Hanham was born in London, England and came to the Merville area with his mother and sister in 1916. He attended Tsolum School. Mr. Hanham was a farmer, a logger and except for a short time in Beaton, BC, where he owned a hotel. He moved to St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, where he met his wife Elizabeth, there he owned a card, newspaper and tobacco shop. He then moved back to Canada, to reside in the Campbell River area and Comox Valley. Mr. Hanham was a Kinsman. He had a great zest for life. He loved to fish, hunt and play cribbage. After he and his wife retired, they travelled extensively. Mr. Hanham had a incredible memory of the living history of the Comox Valley area and contributed background information for numerous articles and a book.

The family would like to thank the Home Health Care Service, it’s staff who made it possible for him to live at his home until his passing.

A special thanks to Dr. Barbara Fehlau and the staff and nurses of St. Joseph’s Hospital. A special thanks to Mrs. Charles Sutton, Mr. & Mrs. Vincent Everett who were on call with the Comox Valley Life Line. He will be missed by his friend Wilf Moon. He was a generous and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by those who knew him.

No funeral was held. A small Celebration of Life will be held in February.
