Stanley passed away on July 2, 2006 at the age of 84 in the Extended Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox.

A lifetime resident of the Comox Valley, Stan was predeceased by his parents John and Lena Cairns, brothers: Jackie Cairns of Courtenay, James Cairns of Chase, and a sister, Aileen Torey of Courtenay. He leaves behind a loving and caring sister, Hilda (Kenneth) Keenan of Buckley Bay. He will be sadly missed by the many nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States and England.

Stanley joined the army, The Duke of Conaught’s Own Rifle which later became a tank corps during W.W.II. He served in North Africa, Sicily and Europe as a tank driver. After the war he became a grader operator for the Department of Highways until his retirement in 1985.

Stanley’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the Extended Care Unit of St. Joseph’s General Hospital and to Piercy’s Funeral Home for taking care of arrangements. Also, many thanks to Dr. Naaykens and Stan’s neighbours, Harold and Eleanor Walker.

There will be a Celebration of Stanley’s life on July 15th, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Piercy’s Funeral Home in Courtenay.
