Musterer, Stephanie Ellen
March 3, 1924 - January 17, 2007
Stephanie Musterer (nee: Chechotko) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox at sunrise on January 17. Born in Poland, Stephanie came to Canada with her family in 1930 to farm near Tomahawk, Alberta. She married Paul Musterer in 1947 and raised her family in Edmonton. Stephanie and Paul moved to the Black Creek area in 1974 to be near the ocean and mountains. Stephanie was an ardent gardener and naturalist, and enjoyed studying French and German. She was dedicated to her roles as wife and mother and her children remember their happy, secure upbringing with much gratitude.
Stephanie is survived by her daughter Loraine (Denis) and son David (Marilyn). Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren brought her great joy. She is also survived by siblings: Stella, Paul, Anne (Jim), Jill (Max), Julie (Peter), Betty (Bob); sister-in-law Dorothy (Duane); brother-in-law George (Anne); and many nieces and nephews. Stephanie was predeceased by her husband Paul (2003) as well as siblings Phyllis, Mark and John; and brothers and sisters-in-law Grant, Lydia, Ted, Wilma, Sophie, Erna, Bill, Erich and Kay.
Special thanks are extended to Drs. David and Jannice Bowler, the competent and kind staff in the acute care ward of St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Chaplain Gordon Carter. The family also thanks the community nurses and home care workers of the V.I.H.A., and Stephanie’s neighbors and friends who helped her remain in her home, where she was happiest.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Stephanie’s life at an open house at the family home on Saturday, January 20th from 1-4 pm. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Piercy’s ~ Mt. Washington Funeral Home and an interment ceremony will be held at a later date at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephanie’s name may be made to the St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation, 2137 Comox Avenue, Comox, BC V9M 1P2.
