December 18, 1955 - June 22, 2020
We remember Steve with love and gratitude. A generous, devoted and compassionate man, Steve worked hard and loved deeply. He enjoyed nature, music, fragrant flowers in the garden, a clear night sky, being out on the water, and sharing birds and butterfly sightings with his grandchildren. He passionately disliked mosquitoes and poorly edited writing of any kind. (He would really have preferred to edit his own obituary.) Steve enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passions with friends and family.
The son of an Air Force family, he moved often during his youth. Graduating from Georges P. Vanier Secondary School in Comox, he spent a lot of time at the ocean and playing music with his friend, Smitty. He received his Forestry degree from the University of British Columbia. In his last year of university, he met his life companion, Lynn, and they were married a year later. They moved to Williams Lake after their honeymoon, with hopes that he could extend his summer job with the Forest Service. He worked with the Forest Service in Williams Lake and then Alexis Creek in both planning and silviculture for close to 17 years. He joined DWB Consulting in 1995, where he enjoyed working in a variety of different areas for 25 years.
Steve had a strong sense of civic duty and was the Chair of the Williams Lake Community Forest. He shared astronomy with the community, taught ballroom dance and was part of the Scout Island Fencing Club. He was on the board of directors of World Accord, a unique international development partnership, for many years and remained an enthusiastic supporter.
He is survived by his mother, Myrtle and brothers, Jamie, Jeff and Roger; his wife, life and dance partner of 43 years, Lynn; his son, Michael; his daughter, Jodie; his son-in-law and fishing buddy, Ben; and his grandchildren, Ellie and Finn, who brought him great joy.
A celebration of life service will be held at some point in the future.
In lieu of flowers, Steve would have preferred a donation to World Accord. https://worldaccord.org/donate/
