Theodore “Bud” Bailey

Engineer, Pilot, all-round sportsman, Bud passed away at home in Comox, BC on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, aged 98 years.

Predeceased by his wonderful wife, Florence of 65 years in 2014, Bud is survived by two daughters, Carol of Courtenay, BC and Pamela of Cochrane, AB; grandson Ryan (Cathy) and great-grandchildren Georgia, Radley and Major; granddaughter Kareen (Russell) and great- granddaughters Isla and Scarlett, who will greatly miss their “Gru-Gru”.

Bud served in the R.A.F. the entire WWII and flew 1,000 plus hours, including a tour of operation with 201 SQN.

His 40-year career in the Aerospace industry were happy times until his retirement upon completion of a 22-year assignment in Europe as Senior Field Engineer to the C.A.F. and all NATO members.

Bud was very active in many sports, playing hockey in the industrial league and skydiving in Quebec and Europe. Bud also enjoyed Volksmarching, a form of fitness walking which took him to hikes in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, receiving a commemorative medal upon completion.

Bud was involved in all facets of competitive motorcycling, including airfield racing, hill climbs and scrambles. He was Canada’s only gold medal winner of the prestigious FICM/ISDT in Wales in 1949.

Bud was also an avid flyer, chief pilot for the Baden Parachute Club and Lahr Gliding Club and flew in many airshows in France and Germany in his Tiger Moth, often accompanied by his daughter Carol.

Bud had a wonderful life which touched many. He will be sorely missed by all his friends and family. Private family arrangements.
