December 20, 1933 – December 13, 2016. Tom passed away on the morning of December 13, 2016, aged 82 years, after a very brief illness. He was born in Northern Ontario in a snow-covered cabin on the shortest day of the year to Thomas Alfred Quibell, of Tillsonburg and Isobel Henderson, of Edinburgh. Since then, he always loved sunshine and warm weather. Tom first enlisted in the RCAF in 1957, and was posted to CFB Trenton before transferring to CFB Baden–Soellingen (4 Wing) in 1967. Returning to Canada in 1970, he was posted to CFB Comox 409 Squadron. Upon retirement he worked with Okanagan Helicopters, and was later commissioned to serve with the Comox Cadet Flying Training Centre, retiring at the rank of Captain in 1993. In his later years, he volunteered with the Y2K Spitfire Project. Tom married Germaine McCann in 1957, and together they had two children and traveled Europe while posted overseas; Germaine passed in 1993. Tom married Margaret (Poulsen) Ross in 1998. Tom and Margaret traveled France, Italy, and Central America and enjoyed their Comox home overlooking the mountains and water. Tom was predeceased by his parents, his sister Lillian Bolger, nephew John Bolger, and both Germaine and Margaret. He is survived by his son Scott (Harvey) of Kamloops and daughter Linda (Jim Felch) of Vancouver and Seattle, and many nieces, nephews and stepchildren. Special thanks to the Intensive Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital, and particularly Dr. Sam Kohen, for their gentleness and compassion at a very difficult time. In lieu of flowers or any other tributes, the family gratefully requests donations be made in Tom’s name to the Comox Valley Food Bank.
