April 20, 1927 - December 11, 2018
Tony Von Niessen was born on April 20, 1927, in Herbert Saskatchewan, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 11, 2018 in Comox Valley Hospital.

Tony was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary and his brothers Fred and Terry. He is survived by his wife Pauline (nee Dowling), his love for 60 years.

Tony and Pauling have four children, Mary Lou (Dave), Patti (Bob), Chris (Lorna), and Philip. He loved his six grandchildren Peter (Evy), Robyn, Thomas (Danielle), Cameron, C.J. (Cassandra), and Matthew. He lived long enough to enjoy seven great grandchildren; Avery, Kamille, Hollis, Lincoln, Cohen, Isaac, and Elianna.

Tony and Pauline built their home in Athalmer, BC, in the Columbia River Valley.

Tony was a well-respected resident. He was known to be an honest and fair businessman, barber, and later used bookstore dealer. He was an active member of the Invermere Volunteer Fire Department and especially enjoyed the Fireman's Ball.

Tony was an accomplished finishing woodworker, spending many hours constructing jewelry boxes, medicine cabinets and children toys; a lot of which are still used today.

Tony was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. The family table was often set with bounty from his hunting and fishing trips and from family outings for wild mushrooms or berry picking expeditions.

Tony was a very sociable man and was often seen wearing colorful Hawaiian shirts or sweaters.

Tony's greatest love was his family. His dedication as a husband and father was his greatest accomplishment. He loved and was loved by us all...a true sign of a good father and husband.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring on Vancouver Island.
