Valerie Guinan passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 19, 2008 in Comox, B.C. after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her father Nathan Nathanson. Valerie is survived and will be lovingly missed by her husband Elmo, her mother Lillian Nathanson of Nova Scotia, her stepsons; Darrell (Sheila) of Maple Ridge, B.C., Roger (Karen) of Comox, B.C. and David (Andrea) of Comox, B.C., her daughter Lorraine (James) Bowser of Aldergrove, her grandchildren Darnell, Christopher, Jacob, Isaac and Lucas, her brother Stephen Nathanson of Nova Scotia as well as her aunt Bella and uncle Archie (Shaw). She was a member of Hope Afloat Canada Dragon Boat Team, the Kidney Foundation, Transition House, Operation Christmas Box and Santa’s Workshop. Valerie was a computer programmer for Skeena Cellulose for 13 years and in her leisure time she enjoyed golf, hiking, aerobics, biking, swimming and dragon boat racing. Valerie was a kind and generous person whose love for children was evident in everything that she did. She loved and adored her five step-grandsons as well as children that lived in her neighbourhoods in Prince Rupert and Comox. Organizing Easter Egg hunts or Christmas and Birthday parties were some of her favourite things to do. Through her work with numerous charitable organizations she was a living example of giving to others and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed by her husband Elmo and all who she touched in her life. No flowers please.
