In loving memory ~
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Vance Shimla on September 13, 2024.
Born in Trenton, Ontario, on May 3, 1952, to Charles and Viola Shimla, Vance embodied resilience and dedication from an early age. His journey took him into the military, where he served with honor and commitment. Joining the ranks in 1971, he served his country for over two decades, retiring in 1994. Throughout his service, Vance was recognized for his contributions, receiving a Good Serviceman Award in 1985. Travel with his family and living in many diverse areas of Canada enriched his life and offered him unique experiences, but he held a special fondness for his time in Haida Gwaii, BC, where he forged lasting memories.
Beyond his military career, Vance was a man of the outdoors. He cherished the moments spent hunting and fishing, sharing these passions with family and friends. His laughter and playful banter were hallmarks of his character, bringing cheer to gatherings and making every moment spent with him memorable.
Vance is survived by his loving wife, Melvina, his daughter Darlene, son-in-law Aaron, and his cherished grandchildren, Kristian and Grace. Vance left behind step-father Fred and wife Ginny, siblings Renee, Doug (Donna), Bambi-Lynn (Graham), sister-in-law Doreen, brother-in-law Phil and many nieces and nephews. The love and support he gave his family will resonate with them forever.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Vance's memory, the family suggests a donation to a Mental Health Association. This cause was close to Vance's heart, and your contributions can help support those in need, reflecting his spirit of compassion and care.
Vance's legacy will continue through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he imparted to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
