It is with great sadness we announce that Val passed away suddenly while resting in her Courtenay home on the evening of November 18, 2016, at the age of 72. Val was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on August 28, 1944 to Ruth (Luoma) Myllyniemi, from Port Arthur, and to Edvard Forssi, from Finland. Val’s stepfather Arvo Myllyniemi, from Finland, was prominent throughout her childhood and Val considered him with fond affection. A graduate of King’s Business College in Thunder Bay, Val found her calling as a secretary and civil servant for the Government of Canada in North Bay (ON), Lahr (Germany), CFB Borden (ON), 429 Sqn. Winnipeg (MB), 435 Sqn. Edmonton (AB) and Health Services Unit Victoria (BC).  She celebrated her retirement in 2002 after 32 years of service. Val is survived by her children Jeffrey (Korea), Jason (Vancouver), Jennifer Kingston (Ryan), and Granddaughter Eeva Kingston (Victoria). She is remembered by sister Aili Manych (Don) of The Pas, Manitoba and was predeceased by sister Gladys Nummikoski (Waino), brother Leo Myllyniemi (Bernice) and brother Edward in infancy. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 (doors open at 1:30), on January 22, at the 888 (Komox) RCAF Wing.
