In loving memory ~
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom Vivian Ekstrom. Mom passed away at the Comox Valley Hospital on April 15, surrounded by her family, 11 weeks after losing her husband Ray, loving partner for 69 years.
Born in Comox, into the Graham family of Denman Island, Vivian was daughter to Thelma and Albert Graham and sister to Catherine.
Raised on Denman, Vivian worked at the Denman Island General Store and helped with the mail. She loved riding her horse Bess. Ray came to work on Denman in 1949, where he boarded with the Graham Family and met Vivian. They were married in 1953, residing on Denman for a short time.
Vivian and Ray bought property in Buckley Bay where they built their home, raised their family and enjoyed their later years. They worked together side by side. Vivian was not afraid of work.
Vivian is predeceased by her mother Thelma, father Albert, daughter-in-law Gayle and husband Ray. She is survived by her sister Catherine, children Lynda, Murray and Val, grandchildren Patrick and Sarah, Heather and Kimberley, great grandchildren Weylin and Julian, and son-in -laws Brad and Colin.
Vivian dedicated her life to her family. She always put the needs of her family and others first. She may have been a small stature, but her presence was huge. Never judging, she was the rock that held the family strong.
Vivian loved being outside, especially in her garden. She played the accordion, sewed dance costumes for her girls and enjoyed knitting. Her sense of humor would catch you unexpectedly.
"Firmly rooted in truth and wisdom "
"She was a pillar of strength - she showed us the way "
The family would like to thank the Healthcare workers at the Comox Valley Hospital, for their compassion and understanding, especially those on the third floor.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CNIB.
A gathering to honor Vivian and Ray will be held at the Fanny Bay Community Hall on June 10 at 2:00.
