Walter Wilson

January 21, 1927 – May 14, 2019
Our family is saddened to announce that Uncle Walt passed peacefully on May 14, 2019 at the North Island Hospital in Courtenay. Born on January 21, 1927 in Cumberland, BC, Walter was a third generation Wilson in the Comox Valley. Walter spent his entire 45 year work life on the logging and freight railways throughout BC. “Wally”, as friends and co-workers affectionately referred to him, was most proud of not only being one of very few operating rail steam engineers but ascending to the top seniority engineer at BC Rail. He was also engineer on the Royal Hudson for a time. Trains were his life and he could, and would, tell you about every engine and train on the tracks.
Walter was predeceased by parents James and Hannah, sister Eva and brother in law Ken. He is survived by niece and nephew Wendy and Jim (Donna), grandniece and nephews Kirsten (Aaron), Keith (Michelle) and Ken (Megan); great grandniece and nephews Avery, Jack, Reid, Bennett, Quinn and Wyatt.
The family would like to express our profound gratitude for the care and friendship of Uncle Walts close friends and care givers that made his life richly rewarding. Private family arrangements have been made.
Keep riding the rails Uncle Walt.
