“Bill”

1932 ~ 2003

Born July 12, 1932 in Ballynahinch, Co., Down, Northern Ireland. The only son of Agnes Nancy and Thomas Killops and the brother of Gwen and Valerie, he is predeceased by his mother, father, and sister Valerie.

Bill was educated in his town of Ballynahinch where he later left on a tour of America, which brought him to Vancouver, BC. One day while walking the streets of Vancouver, he saw the sign “Royal Canadian Air Force” and, there, a new life began. Bill went forward and pledged his life to his newfound country.

Bill was then sent to Camp Borden at the young age of 20, where his training took place. After completing his training, he was transferred to North Bay, ON, for two years. There he met his wife and was married on May 21, 1955. In June of the same year, Bill was transferred to Cold Lake, Alberta, where his wife later joined him. There he stayed for the next 2 years. On June 16, 1957, Bill was delighted with the birth of his first son, William James.

On August 30, 1955, Bill received orders to report for duty at Marville, France. There his second son, Timothy Michael, was born. He enjoyed every transfer. During his tour of duty in France, he made many lifelong friendships.

With four years of duty there, Bill was transferred back to North Bay, ON, where his third son, Gregory Adam, and fourth son, Eric Alexander, were born. Baden-Baden, Germany, was Bill’s last transfer and later chose Comox, BC where he brought his family and made this great place his last home.

Master Cpl. RTD. Bill Killops passed on to his final posting November 7, 2003.
