Dear Courtenay mayor and council,

I will not be voting for you this fall over the 21st Street bridge decision you just made on Aug. 20, and will be advocating against you at every opportunity.

I don’t understand how you can remove this bridge as an option for future transportation needs.

You have ignored the input from two public open houses on this issue and bowed to a special interest group of maybe 100 people. The end result is that the transportation requirements of thousands is ignored while you kowtow to a small population.

Why was no public notice given that this type of vote was taking place and no opportunity for members of the public to speak in favour of the bridge?

Further, the idea of a 20-year lease is ludicrous. Granted, the private airplane owners need a place to operate. There happens to be a new invention called an airport and as luck would have it, we have one!

It is apparent that all of you lack the necessary will to make hard decisions regarding the growth of this city. While it is unlikely for a bridge to be funded in the near term, the users of the airstrip need to make plans to move.

All of you need to be replaced and I hope the majority of my fellow voters feel the same.

Maurice Levert
