Well, after three years of legal wrangling and over $120,000 spent by the City of Courtenay, not to mention the huge sums spent by the Lins of Maple Pool in legal bills, Coun. Leonard now says that the City has no intention of turfing Maple Pool residents into the streets.
Most of us learned from our parents as children that "actions speak louder then words."
City council's past and current actions would suggest that, contrary to Coun. Leonard's latest epiphany, the City is indeed trying to evict tenants from Maple Pool and is continuing to move forward in court to gain legal approval to do so.
Right now, there is an action before the B.C. Supreme Court seeking such evictions, and the action was brought before the courts approved by City council, all at taxpayers' expense.
I guess it shouldn't be surprising that these kinds of inconsistent announcements are made in an election year.
It would lead one to to question whether Coun. Leonard's letter and the motion she and Coun. Hillian recently brought forward to council is simply another thinly disguised attempt at re-election?
