Anti-Conservative diatribe cannot go unanswered

Dear editor,

The writer of Friday’s letter to the editor, Harper rewarded not punished, expresses the opinion that people should be disgusted with the result of the May 2 election and casts aspersions upon all of us who fail to have a grip on the issues or the brains to elect a good government.

That government would obviously be one of her choosing; thus, we must conclude we are undemocratic and rather stupid if our choice is contrary to hers. I cannot allow her diatribe of misinformation to go unanswered.

The writer claims Mr. Harper's record should have disgusted us. Really?

Is she speaking about his economic record which has guided us safely through a severe recession and is the envy of all industrialized nations? Is she speaking about his record wherein he gives young families tax breaks such as deductions for sports programs, or his delivery of 120 tax cuts to all Canadian families saving us $3,000 a year or more per family?

Maybe she is opposed to his record where he provided income-splitting resulting in significant savings for seniors at tax time. Perhaps she has issues with Mr. Harper’s support for veterans and the military or education and skills training incentives, or his support for victims of crime.

As for contempt of Parliament: what part of having three hyper-partisan political parties gang up and vote his government in contempt does she not understand? As for broken promises, illegal tactics and dirty electioneering, the writer is indulging in hyperbole without providing evidence or facts, of which there are none.
