Dear Editor,
I write in response to the letter from Daryl Sturdy who is advocating for a change in our electoral system to proportional representation. He states that first past the post was "laid on us by Queen Victoria as a temporary system." That statement is blatantly false. We do and have always used the Westminster parliamentary system. On three occasions British Columbia voters have soundly rejected proportional representation. Another thing that Mr. Sturdy fails to mention is that under the proportional representation a significant number of people wind up being represented by someone who was chosen in a back room deal by their party.
