A BIG BAG of stinky cow pies, to our society, for treating people like dirt. I am talking about our visible and non-visible, legal and illegal, drug habituated individuals in our community. Firstly, they are brothers, sisters, mothers, daughters, fathers, aunts and uncles and deserve to be treated with dignity. Unfortunately, drugs bring out qualities in people that make them hard to love. Many, cheat, steal, lie, become homeless, violent and appear dirty. Qualities we find intolerable but, it is the drug and the neglect from our society, that makes them this way. Health care professionals are subjected to violence and verbal abuse but if these people are not treated and helped then death will occur and the crisis will only get worse. More training and support in the medical field is needed.

THE K’OMOKS First Nation would like to give an enormous thank you to the donations contributed, and to all of those who came out to volunteer to help make Tribal Journeys 2017 “Standing Together” a success. There were over 1,500 people and 40 canoes that were welcomed to the K’ómoks First Nation traditional territory, where food, culture, and stories were shared. We raise our hands and hearts to everyone; you are forever in our hearts. The support from the entire Comox Valley made hosting the canoe families a great success.

STINKY COW PIES to the developers on Lazo Rd. Thanks for paving paradise and thanks to the Town of Comox for letting them do this. Every single tree has been taken down, even the fruit trees. So ugly and it could have been done with more thought for the environment and the people who already live there but it is all about profit. The heritage house was torn down but it was old so it needs to go. Homeless people everywhere but tear it down. Who cares, no one I guess? RIP, CVRD. You will be consumed soon.

A BOUQUET TO Prime Minister Trudeau and Finance Minister Morneau who are trying to make the tax system fairer by closing loopholes that allow some individuals to slash their personal tax bills by becoming “private corporations,” allowing them to sprinkle income to their spouses and even their children to disguise how much they are really earning and pay lower rates. In last week’s flyers, no fewer than 35 Comox Valley Realtors openly advertised the fact (albeit in small print) that they operate as private corporations. How many more professionals out there are doing the same while the rest of us pay our fair share?

AT THIS TIME, when physicians are being specifically targeted by the Liberals’ tax changes, I wish to give my deepest thanks to Dr. William Papenfus, Liz, the laboratory, and all emergency staff at St. Joseph’s for their medical intervention to stabilize me this past weekend. Doctors save lives. While all working people are valuable, and pay exorbitant taxes as is, doctors are not the dreaded one percent so hated by the Occupy movement. In fact, doctors’ salaries are dictated by our socialist health care system.

BOUQUETS TO THE man who knocked on the front door of our Comox home to tell us of water bubbling out from the concrete metre box on our front lawn. We had just gotten back from vacation and hadn’t noticed it yet. Your thoughtful attention saved us much grief. Thank you.

A BIG BOUQUET to the cyclists who use the 5th Street bike path between Menzies and Pidcock, which cost thousands of tax payers’ dollars to put in place as a result of lobbying by the cycling coalition, and which cost 5th St. residents the loss of their street parking. A big wish-for-your-safety-and-ours goes out to the cyclists (including parents with children) who continue to enter 4th St. from Menzies — an illegal and dangerous wrong-way entry. We have seen so many close calls (which you can’t see) behind you as vehicles turn onto Menzies from 5th, and several close calls as vehicles swing around you as they (legally) exit 4th onto Menzies. It takes no extra time to continue down 5th to Pidcock and turn right to continue your travels. And simply, the RCMP has advised us that yes, this is a traffic violation, and a dangerous one, and we are to continue reporting vehicles and cyclists who use this turn.

MY PET PEEVES at Comox Recreation seem to be growing. Gym members need to be more aware that there are others waiting for the machines. Please do not sit on machines and text, sleep, watch tv or claim ownership of two machines at once. The other day it was a couple taking turns at same machines. Back and forth. You are not on it, I will use it!

BOUQUETS OF ROSES to the staff at the Visitors Centre for their outstanding efforts at helping guest with accommodation needs and questions about exploring our area. The Comox Valley B&B Association would like to thank them for not only referring guests who seek a B&B to our members, but for also giving great information to guests to whom we send to the Centre if they need other services! Job well done all year, but especially during the summer!

BEEF TO THE Town of Comox who made the decision to put up an unnecessary amount of “Do not park” signs on Robb Avenue and also to take all the parking away from Church Street to Pritchard Road. Who makes these ridiculous decisions anyway? Why not ask the taxpayers what they want. We don’t live in a big city for a reason.

IF YOU’RE yelling at a child, realize, your screaming at his world. Bye from Dave

HUGE BOUQUET to Jennifer, Christianne and the rest of the team at the CVRD. Day in and day out you go to bat for our community, with little or no thanks for your dedication. Keep up the great work — you’re the true unsung heroes of the Comox Valley.

WELL, FINALLY a government has come clean on the carbon tax. Just another tax that does nothing for the environment, but at least the BC NDP may invest in reforestation. The BC Liberal investment in addressing wild fires has been a disaster. As much of a disaster as fentanyl, out of site housing costs and record high car crashes, only those rich folks on drugs or selling drugs or real estate, or going fast on our roads would want the BC Liberals back-ever.
