Carbon tax could support Vancouver Island railway

Dear editor,

With the impending closure of the E&N Railway line to and from Victoria and Courtenay due to lack of funds to maintain the track, I'm reminded of that carbon tax that we British Columbians pay.

What better use of this "revenue neutral" fund could there be, than to maintain a long-standing traditional means of mass transit.

I would agree with some people that different scheduling would probably increase ridership although being retired myself, a stayover in Victoria was never a problem.

Oil is a problem and with gas prices going ever upward and electric vehicles not yet meeting the public's expectations, even if infrastructure was provided, any form of mass transportation should be seriously endorsed.

John Ledsham,
