Comox is building amenities — and cyclists are coming

Dear editor, We have, in fact, built it (bike lanes) and they are coming (cyclists).

Dear editor,We have, in fact, built it (bike lanes) and they are coming (cyclists).Over the last three years, the Town of Comox with funding assistance from the provincial government and the federal government (gas tax) has constructed over 2.5 kilometres of new infrastructure (Comox Hill, Comox Avenue, Guthrie Road) that is designed for safer cycling and traffic flow. Our green 'conflict zones' are state of the art, and we intend to continue this treatment as we paint bike lanes along Anderton and Robb later this year. The resolution, in fact, referred to rural area cycling infrastructure that is more properly the jurisdiction of the CV Regional District and the Ministry of Highways, which is why it wasn't even seconded at our council meeting (it was not defeated). The Town of Comox remains committed to improved traffic and pedestrian safety as part of a comprehensive study completed last year with a new Official Community Plan.We also have been actively involved in the Comox Valley Cycling Task Force as all local governments work toward improving cycling infrastructure within our region.Mayor Paul Ives,Comox
