Dear editor,
I'm forwarding this letter to you in response to the recent newspaper article in your paper on Aug. 6 concerning a proposed vision for a Comox Lake watershed sustainable use recreational area.
While the Courtenay & District Fish and Game Protective Association shares the same desire for the area to be used and recognized as a recreation area, our board is unable to endorse many of the details within the Comox Valley Conservation Strategy Community Partnership's proposal that their group envisions.
The Courtenay & District Fish and Game Protective Association feels the watershed should be available to all user groups that currently and in future, may operate or do business within the watershed so long as their activities are done in an ecologically sound manner that is neither harmful nor damaging to the existing major water courses within this watershed.
In particular the Courtenay & District Fish and Game Protective Association supports the existing government structures and processes for managing the development of the watershed, including our Comox Valley water supply, as long as this is also done in an ecologically sound manner.
Our association sees no need or advantage at this time, to begin to create a new unelected, special-purpose administrative body to carry out this function in order to bring the Comox Valley Conservation Strategy Community Partnership's management visions to fruition.
Our board of directors respectfully requests that the Comox Valley Conservation Strategy Community Partnership no longer suggests or infers that our association supports their proposed views.
