FROM THE EDITOR: With all the negative news surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to turn the Beefs & Bouquets page into a Bouquets Only feature. We are offering the opportunity for our readers to lift each other up, with positive thoughts and messages. Please send your bouquets, and positive thoughts to bandb@comoxvalleyrecord.com Please keep submissions within 150 words. We can resume publishing beefs once a sense of normalcy returns. For now, let’s partake in positive reinforcement.

A BIG BOUQUET to the health minister and our prime minister. Now that our whole infrastructure as we know it has been pulled out from under our feet, I’d like to thank the health minister and prime minister for directing us what to do, when to do it and how far to go.

AS OUR FOREFATHERS were in the trenches of the First World War, they led us to the call. So to, as Canadians, we too can all yo the call to stay safe.

A BIG BOUQUET TO the stores and supermarkets having senior hours in the morning. I think the grocery stores such as Thrifty Foods, Quality Foods and Walmart who have senior hours should be applauded. This is a wonderful thing they are doing. There are seniors, however, that are in wheelchairs, walkers, and have care-aids, who can’t get to your stores to take advantage of your wonderful decision. Perhaps you could consider extending your senior shopping time by another hour, so more seniors would be able to access this opportunity.

THANK YOU FOR A phenomenal service to Komox Pest Control. He knew I had unpaid tenants and I didn’t know how to get rid of them partying in my attic all night. The service he did was above and beyond what other companies quoted and I no longer have party guests in my attic.

A BRIGHT NOTE from Union Bay. An Easter bunny lives here. This morning a siren was heard going off and on, on our street. Soon, two fire department vehicles appeared with lights flashing. In between them was a truck with a big Easter bunny in the back waving. One neighbour’s child ran to the road with his mother and was jumping up and down in excitement. A very big thank you to the Union Bay Fire Department volunteers for the donation of their time to create such a wonderful memory and a bright spot for this adult too.

MY PROFUSE APOLOGIES to the lady with the Jack Russel for leaning into your social distancing space on Easter Monday to retrieve my way too friendly puppy - who really should have been on his leash… I am so sorry that we triggered your fears at this challenging time for everyone. I totally understand. And have taken note of all that you have expressed so clearly. With gratitude for all the reminders! May you keep enjoying your walks as much as we do. We are so lucky to have access to large tracts of nature in our beautiful valley at such a time as this.

A COLLECTION OF DRUMS TO those who beat them at 7 p.m. I bang my pot for my daughter who is a paramedic in Vancouver. My neighbour bangs for her daughter who is a nurse in a big hospital. A friend bangs for her doctor who works in the ER. My sister bangs for the repair person who fixed her car’s ignition problem yesterday. My cousin bangs for the store clerks who come to work every day. And I also bang for the Record that keeps our community together. Who do you bang for?

THE TCU STAFF AT COMOX VALLEY HOSPITAL want acknowledge and give thanks for all the love and support from our community, it has been pretty amazing! Church Street Cafe Chili (please bring more!), Tim Hortons, McDonalds, A&W, Dominos, Islander Pizza, Pita Pit, Starbucks, Chevron. We do appreciate the tai chi demo in front of CVH, the 447 Squadron’s fly-by salute, the first responders, the firefighters, the Old Car parade, the school kids who brought Barney the Dinosaur, the painted stone gifts, the Thank You signs, and the 7 p.m. Sounding of Community Spirit. Thank you for taking good care of yourselves and helping one another get through this!

A HUGE BOUQUET OF beautiful flowers to the kind selfless lady who gave up her spot in the lineup at Costco to an elderly couple, the man pushing his wife in a wheelchair. This lady was about fourth in line at 8 a.m. for Costco’s 9 a.m. opening. This elderly couple came to line up at approximately 8:50 a.m. By this time the lineup was all the way along the whole side of the store, and into the parking lot. Although this compassionate lady had stood waiting for 50 minutes, she gave up her spot and went to stand at the end of the line. What a wonderful act of kindness. I actually did not hear the man say thank you, but perhaps he was too shocked to respond. This helped restore my faith In humanity. Never underestimate the impact a small act of kindness can have. Thank you!

BOUQUETS TO DORIS who has sat at her picture window with her easel and paints creating wonderful, colorful, smile-inducing paintings. She turns them around so they may be viewed from the street. Thanks for sharing your talent and positive energy with the neighborhood and passersby.

I’D LIKE TO GIVE a grateful shout out to Dunn Towing. My motorcycle quit down in Bowser and required a pickup to get her back to Courtenay. The flatbed driver had her tied down and on the road in 15 minutes. I was expecting an “ouch” bill, it was not. Very reasonable.

BOUQUETS OF SPRING FLOWERS to Bobby from Roto Rooter Sewer & Drain Services in the Comox Valley. Your prompt and effective service was most appreciated when in self-isolation you helped with clearing sewage pipes blockage. You saved my sanity and my home in the shortest notice of my call. Thank you. Your company would be on my first to call list.

DURING THIS MOST UNUSUAL time, there is lots to be thankful for. A big thanks to the gentleman who paid for my scones and fudge at Hot Chocolates and to the lady that returned my cellphone that I left sitting on the bench at Edible Island; the great weather; the smaller carbon footprint; the increased time to call family and those who are dear to us. Other things include the new found time for reducing the ‘honey do’ list; time for self reflection and evaluating our priorities; all the hearts and supportive messages to our health providers and front line workers; the decreased noise so we can hear spring happening. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay the distancing, and be thoughtful and thankful.

THE CREVICE GARDEN at the marina in Comox is extraordinary right now, a sight to behold! Kudos to a man named Danny for creating it and to whoever maintains it. The Record should put a picture on their front page. Thanks too to the Comox works department making and keeping our town so beautiful.

A BOUQUET TO THE Record for caring about us. I was looking forward to getting the Record on Wednesday, especially since we only get one paper a week now. When it never came, the following morning I phoned the Record and left a message conveying my disappointment. Thankfully they got my message and shortly thereafter a paper appeared at my doorstep.

A BIG BOUQUET TO the crew working at Dairy Queen on Tuesday, April 14, around 5 p.m. You have to wonder how many dozens of times in a shift the person on the takeout loudspeaker says the same thing, over and over, about not taking cash, taking the orders, etc. yet everyone got a super cheerful greeting. The whole crew on Tuesday afternoon were awesome, from ordering to getting your treats at the window. And the crew, from kitchen to packing must have had some great teamwork going, as the cars, though lined up around the building, were moving at a steady pace. Thank you.
