Consider installing roundabouts

I have been watching the congestion in town, and read the recent article about the eight dangerous Comox Valley intersections.

I am writing to encourage the towns of Comox, Courtenay, (and Cumberland) to consider installing roundabouts in their future city planning.

Stop signs and traffic lights seem to add to the congestion, and signs are now mostly ignored because there are just too many, everywhere.

Perhaps a roundabout at the top of the Ryan Road hill at the NIC entrance, and Sixth and Fitzgerald could be considered; call it a ‘traffic calming circle.’ If a small country like England can do it, why can’t we? Then, maybe add driver education to the high school curriculum (how to indicate at a roundabout, how to stay on the right and/or left so traffic can come in on the left and/or right at Ryan at the Superstore…in the year that the kids are getting their Ls. This could help ensure that they know the rules (and can remind us older drivers about them).
