Harper’s actions speak louder than words regarding maternal health

Dear editor,

Prime Minister Harper was in New York City recently telling all who would listen, at his speech at the U.N.,  about how dear “maternal health” is to his heart.  He spent a lot of our tax dollars doing that.  When it comes to action regarding “maternal health”, however,  we don’t see much in the way of results in Canada.  You see we have a “maternal health” crisis in Canada.  It’s the 1,200 murdered/missing First Nations women.

Many of the murdered/missing women were mothers and nothing is worse for “maternal health” than being murdered.

The 1,200 women had mothers, who upon finding out their daughters had been murdered, likely had a decline in their health.

So if P.M. Harper holds maternal health so near and dear to his heart, let him call a national inquiry into the 1,200 murdered/missing First Nations women and just call it “improving the maternal health of Canadian women.”
