HAVE YOUR SAY: Thanks, Comox Valley Record, for supporting the arts

Many thanks to the Comox Valley Record for its strong support of the arts in the Comox Valley.

Many thanks to the Comox Valley Record for its strong support of the arts in the Comox Valley, specifically, the Vancouver Island Musicfest and the Filberg Festival. Your help did not go unnoticed. And the lack of support from others also did not go unnoticed. Please support the Record with your advertising dollars.

As most of my paper route customers know, my mobility scooter is my lifeline to the world of independence. To be stranded without it for 27 days was a severe hardship. Sincere thanks to my customers for their patience, understanding, help and encouragement. There are no thanks whatsoever to the MediChair store in Nanaimo who treated me so unfairly and with a complete lack of competence. But a huge thank you to the Home Medical Shop in Courtenay who were so helpful and speedy to repair my scooter. They are awesome.

We all exchange a small amount of freedom for the security of living within an organized society. Power is given to government for the sole purpose of restricting behavior that injures others against their will. This limited government is the symbol of a free society. Extending the powers of government beyond that, into matters of personal choice, crosses the line between freedom, and tyranny. It is up to us, as voters, to decide how much government involvement we want in our lives, but when making this decision, it is important to keep in mind that if you allow yourself to impose your beliefs on others, through the use of government, you are opening the door for others to impose their beliefs on you.

A houseful of sweetheart roses to the young Forces wife with young baby who found my wallet (containing a considerable amount of cash) in the shopping cart in the Walmart parking lot, and turned it into the RCMP on Friday, July 13. Thank you for renewing my belief in the basic kindness in this world.
