He still can't say yes to the HST

Dear editor, No to HST ! Just recently I wrote: "One simple way to solve this whole problem would be lowering the HST to 10 per cent. We would pay almost the same taxes as before and the "administration cost" excuse and return of $ would be gone, too. It is probably too late for this solution — I doubt the government will move on this fast enough."

She said HST will go down to 10 per cent in July. I said: that's good, we can now vote to keep it.However, later I found that information was somewhat incorrect. The HST is to be lowered by one per cent more than a year from now and another one per cent in July of 2014! During the next 3+ years we will pay more than $1,000 in extra taxes, because of HST. Even if we get a little refund.People will wait with major purchases, underground economy will spread and tourism and other industries will suffer for three more years. Jobs will be lost. Obviously it is back to the voting against HST.It took government months to bring it in and it should be fairly simple to restore the original system everyone knows in less time than a month.I guess we can help by voting HST out and then government can quickly bring it back at 10 per cent, if that is going to be so helpful to our province.By the way I checked and did not find any benefits to our economy since we have the HST, same in Quebec and Ontario.Nova Scotia raised their HST to 15 per cent! And they are not creating thousands of jobs as the HST proponents promise. And it is an NDP government! It seems, that increased taxation is not the answer.HST (if we need it !) should be 10 per cent from this July!G. Novak,Comox
