Kindness seeks win-win outcomes

Dear editor, Re: Deborah Joyce's column Unkindness is abundant (Oceanside Star, May 12).

Dear editor,Re: Deborah Joyce's column Unkindness is abundant (Oceanside Star, May 12).May I introduce a proven idea to increase kindness towards each other?Deborah referred to reality TV, “where it is a dog-eat dog world” and there is “no place for kindness in that picture.”With regard to this challenge, our married children have decided early on in their marriage to limit TV time for their children. The time is long past when we used to watch as a family TV shows such as The Brady Bunch or Little House on the Prairie. Those were golden years for educators and parents alike; we received assistance through entertainment to help teach our children how they could and should be nice to their siblings and others. This is in sharp contrast with shows that children watch today, which do have the negative result as Deborah so well projected, with the dog-eat dog syndrome, and where the last person standing is the celebrity. Winning is the key!Kindness and unkindness begins at home, and if TV is the main example, then the off button is the way to start a kinder society. Kindness will always be remembered with a win-win result.Ary Sala,Fanny Bay
