Dear editor,

Re: Resident calling for Courtenay to adopt a cat bylaw - (Feb. 14 letter)

Cats have performed a useful function in society for hundreds of years – rodent control. Poisoning rats results in poisoned eagles and hawks.

In Winnipeg they imposed a cat bylaw and ever since my sister’s neighbourhood has been overrun with rabbits… digging up her gardens and eating her plants.

A cat bylaw can have unintended consequences.
