Dear editor,

Re: It’s time to put paved shoulders on Knight Road and Lazo Road in Comox (Sept. 16 Letter). Add to that list Condensory Road, between the Condensory bridge and the One-Spot Trail. It is a mile of hazard.

With the emphasis being put on bicycle use, it is appalling that one of the major cycle routes out of downtown Courtenay has no shoulders whatsoever. With power poles literally three feet from the pavement (I measured), ditches on both sides, a couple of sharp corners with limited forward vision, and probably a threefold increase in traffic since the Tsolum River Bridge was completed, this road is dangerous to cyclists and pedestrians. I have seen groups of recreational cyclists making their way from the Filberg Centre to Piercy Road having to share the pavement with two-way traffic. There is nowhere else to go.

Time for the CVRD, the provincial government and the road contractor to step up.
