LETTER: Facing oncoming traffic makes sense for scooters

Dear editor,

Re.: Courtenay scooter user upset with fine (Oct. 2 Record).

I have been a scooter rider for several years and also drive a car still.

The rule that scooters face the oncoming traffic when there is no sidewalk makes great sense. I like to see cars coming toward me rather than depend on mirrors looking to the rear. I cut out your piece from last week’s paper to show anyone who questions me.

Stay on sidewalk where possible, keep to the inner edge, and slow down as pedestrians approach you.

Remember, you are bigger than a person on foot, plus sidewalks are often narrow.

Smile and maybe stop for a chat (you cannot do that safely from a car).

Monique Games,

Campbell River
