LETTER - When it comes to climate change, who should we believe?

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

The fossil fuel industry and Conservative billionaires are pumping billions of dollars into spreading dis-information designed to convince us that climate change is not real, or that it is not caused by human and industrial activity.

They use their deep pockets to hire climate change deniers to lobby governments, to produce books and articles, and to appear on corporately controlled media, all in a concerted effort to sway public opinion.

Meanwhile, over 97 per cent of actively publishing scientists agree that humans ARE causing climate change, and if we don’t take steps to turn things around soon, the results will be even more catastrophic than what we are seeing on the news, or experiencing in our own backyards.

My question is - who do we believe, the people with vested interests or the people who scientifically study the data?

Alice Grange,

Courtenay
