Thank you for the July 7 editorial and comment piece about the Raven Coal Project.
Both captured the concerns that I have heard from residents in the Comox Valley through to the west coast.
Also of concern is Comox Valley MLA Don McRae's ghost-like presence when it comes to this issue and his hollow comments about being proud of the provincial government's environmental assessment process.
Since the environmental process was gutted by his government to favour industry, the auditor general has released a scathing report, which indicates that major projects such as mines are not being adequately monitored and that there is little control over the environmental impact from already-approved projects.
Instead of hollow assurances, MLA McRae needs to attend the public meetings on the Raven Coal Project, listen to the public's real concerns, and advocate on behalf of his constituents.
