Reformers hijacking B.C. Conservative name

FORMER REFORM and Conservative MP John Cummins spoke in Courtenay recently on behalf of the provincial Conservative party

Dear editor,

There are in all parts of the province those who may have been fooled as was I in making the assumption that the B.C. Conservatives were a spinoff of the federal Progressive Conservative party I have been a lifelong supporter of.

As it turns out, the Reform party members of B.C. have hijacked the Conservative name in order to rebrand themselves.

This has all come to light following the public comments of their leader John Cummins concerning 'gay being a choice'. I'm a progressive conservative and I can't support the 'Archie Bunker' anti-abortionists or those that think being gay is a conscious choice.

Ex-Newfoundland premier Brian Peckford became an adviser to the Party last year.

It is my hope and expectation he, being a progressive conservative, will recognize the party has come under the control of archaic-thinking Reformers.

The president of the Parksville-Qualicum Riding Association recently stated he "wishes the party was running under the Reform banner."

Sir, so do I.

Reg Hawkes,

Nanoose Bay
