Union Bay candidate hoping for healing and harmony

Dear editor, When I am asked why I am running for the Union Bay Improvement District trustee position, my response is always “I would like to make some positive and forward-thinking changes in the community, and the only way to do that is to become involved at the board level.”

Dear editor,When I am asked why I am running for the Union Bay Improvement District trustee position, my response is always “I would like to make some positive and forward-thinking changes in the community, and the only way to do that is to become involved at the board level.”When my husband and I moved to Union Bay six years ago, we attended all of the public meetings held by Kensington Island Properties and, like most members of the community, were very impressed. We came away from those meetings feeling that this development was going to be very beneficial to the community, and we still feel that way today. I envision working closely with KIP to bring about positive solutions to past and current issues which have slowed the development.I believe KIP will play a large part in creating a sense of renewal and rejuvenation within the community.   Within the first month of moving here, I began volunteering in the community, and worked side by side with a lot of very caring people.Since that time, some misunderstandings have arisen because of differences of opinion as to how the board was being run and some of the decisions being made.My hope and vision is to begin a healing process and to work towards creating a harmonious and united community and board once again. To that end, I hope to see people coming forward and beginning a dialogue with me, and with the board.I know there are many talented people here who can contribute valuable input and expertise. My vision is to see a board representative of all members of the community.  For various reasons, the community has not moved forward as quickly as it could have, and I will work towards changing that. I will work hard to expedite that process, always mindful of what is in the best interests of everyone in the community. To that end, I will open up the doors to the suggestions and concerns of every single person.I have a vision to work closely with our dedicated, hard-working firefighters and the community to build a fire hall that is both affordable and up to the latest standards. That is a priority for me.I recognize that it is very important for everyone to feel safe in the knowledge that, should they have a fire or emergency, our brave men and women are equipped to handle it in every way.During this campaign, I’ve met many great people in this community who share a similar vision to mine. They too believe that Union Bay has a bright future. We are at the beginning of major changes and improvements here, and I envision everyone in the community working together to make those changes. That is the only way we are going to move forward and realize our dreams of a united and strong community.Anne Alcock,Union BayEditor's note: Anne Alcock is a candidate for UBID trustee.
