Bantam Raiders lose a heartbreaker to Bulldogs

The Comox Valley Raiders bantam football team faced the Cowichan Bulldogs, Saturday at Bill Moore Park in Courtenay, to compete for the VICFA championship.

The Comox Valley Raiders bantam football team faced the Cowichan Bulldogs, Saturday at Bill Moore Park in Courtenay, to compete for the VICFA championship.

In what turned out to be am exciting game with both teams demonstrating high levels of skill and determination, the Bulldogs were victorious 15-14. Cowichan advances to the provincial championships in Kamloops.

The Raiders were led offensively by Drew Wootton, Jayce Osaduik, Jaedon Mathieu and Mark Biollo, combining for close to 400 yards and two touchdowns.

On defence, Ashton Lepard had a monster game with nine tackles, two for a loss, a forced fumble and the recovery.

Brodie Lawrie, Hannah Bourbyn and Dylan Hickey, in their last game as bantams, were a force once more on the defensive line, making stop after stop, helping to keep the game close.

Although the Raiders were looking for the win on the day, the season as a whole was a tremendous success. The team is already working on improving for next year.
