Brian Buchanan scores ace on ninth hole at Comox

 

 

 

 

• It was a memorable Thursday, May 12 for Brian Buchanan at the Comox Golf Club.

On a sunny morning, Buchanan used his No. 5 hybrid to score a hole in one on the 166-yard ninth hole. His playing partners, Len, Billy and Don, cheered – only to realize that with that one shot, Buchanan took all the carry-overs during the round.

"Congratulations from all your friends, Brian. Great shot," a Comox Golf Club spokesperson said.

• Andrea Prager of the Comox Valley Road Runners ran a personal best at the Vancouver Marathon, finishing fifth in F35-39 and 20th woman overall in a time of 3:24:32. Chris Winkelaar completed the half marathon in 1:33:56, good for 19th out of 328 runners in the M40-44 class. He will be in top shape for the upcoming MOMAR Adventure Race in Cumberland.

• The Lake Trail /Killerwhale Weightlifting Club sent two lifters to the B.C. High School Championships, hosted by the Lions Weightlifting Club May 14 in Surrey. Jakob Rockx, 15, a Grade 9 at G.P. Vanier, set personal records in the snatch with 33 kilos, the clean and jerk with 47kg and in the total with 80kg. He won the silver medal in the 56kg and under category.

Braden Wiebe, 13, a Grade 8 at Lake Trail Secondary competing for the first time at provincials, made all six of his lifts and set PRs in the snatch with 35 and the jerk with 50 for a total of 85 and a gold medal in the 56kg category.

The Killerwhales now have their sights on the Seafest Open at Semiahmoo Secondary on June 25.
