In their second meeting of the season, the Comox men’s 45-plus soccer team beat Courtenay 2-1 in another spirited battle, Tuesday at Valley View Park.

Courtenay drew first blood when striker Peter Croonen finished a scambled play in the goalmouth. It was the only goal of the first half.

Comox evened in the second half when defender Sandy Grant pounced on a rebound after Courtenay keeper Steve Dietrich had saved a shot from Zack Chang, who hit the ball on the volley from high in the box.

Comox kept pressing and was rewarded with a free kick outside the 18-yard box. Michal Wyka converted, slotting the ball inside the post.

Courtenay pressed until the final whistle. Late in the game, Kerby Fisher labelled a hard shot to the far post, but Comox goalie Jon Bos stretched out his arms and knocked the ball out of play.
