The Comox Valley is sending eight athletes and one coach to the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games, July 8-12 in Vancouver.
They are part of a 360-member contingent that is Special Olympics BC’s biggest provincial team ever, and organizers say they are ready to shine on this significant national stage.
Joining coach Nikki Apps (aquatics) are athletes Trevor Carter (5-pin bowling), Kerri Denninger (aquatics), Jake Hooper (athletics), Mason Keddy (athletics), Robert Burns (athletics), Katie Flint (rhythmic gymnastics), Brad Hogan (softball) and Chris Roberge (softball).
Team BC 2014 is comprised of 276 athletes with intellectual disabilities, 70 coaches, and 14 mission staff. At the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Games the athletes will go for gold in 11 sports: 10-pin bowling, 5-pin bowling, aquatics, athletics, basketball, bocce, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, and softball.
This is the first time since 1990 that Special Olympics National Games will be held in B.C. More information is at www.specialolympics.bc.ca.
