Comox Valley United clinches VISL second division title

The Comox Valley United men’s team clinched the Vancouver Island Soccer League second division title after winning a pair of games on the weekend.

Saturday at the Vanier turf, CVU beat the second-place Victoria Highlanders 4-1, avenging a 5-0 road defeat in December. On Sunday, the team secured first place in the standings with a 4-2 road win over Bays United.

Comox Valley has a record of 14-1-2. The team has scored 50 goals and conceded 17.

The team concludes league play March 7 at home against Lakehill, but the game has no bearing on the standings.

Comox Valley begins Jackson Cup play Feb. 22 in Victoria. Their opponent is Gorge FC, a Division 1 team. The Jackson Cup serves as the Vancouver Island soccer championship for all divisions.
