Courtenay golfer Abigail Rigsby capped a stellar year on the links with a playoff victory last month at the season-ending Oklahoma Intercollegiate. She shot a one-under-par 70 in the final round, matching her career best score.

It was her second tournament win of the season. In March, the junior from Oklahoma Christian University won the Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas.

For the second straight year, Rigsby earned an All-Heartland Conference second-team selection.

It didn’t come easy, considering she fractured her foot not long after the first tourney win.

“It was really hard to re-build my game this year after my injury in the spring,” Rigsby said by email. “It took my game a little longer to come back than the year before (when she had been ill).”

She feels her game has improved each season at OCU.

“My coach (Greg Lynn) has spent a lot of time over the last two-and-a-half years helping me improve and progress as a player. I would say the strongest part of my game right now is my putting and short game. It took a good chunk of the season to find my ball striking again.”
