Courtenay school wins consolation title at basketball tourney

The Isfeld Ice senior boys basketball team won the consolation side of the draw at the annual Santa Slam tournament on the weekend at Mount Douglas Secondary in Victoria.

The 3A Ice lost 78-55 to the 4A Nanaimo District Secondary (NDSS) in their opener. They followed with a 74-69 win over Wellington of Nanaimo, and a 74-71 win over the host Mt. Doug.

Ice co-captain Temwa Mtawali, who had missed a few games with an ankle sprain, returned to play against Mt. Doug. He was named to the all-tournament team.

Isfeld hosts Wellington in a league game, Tuesday night at home.

The team is listed among the honourable mentions in the 3A B.C. rankings.

After the Christmas break, the Ice returns to action Jan. 7 against Ballenas in a league game in Parksville.
