CVAC Sharks embark on long-course swim season

Thirteen swimmers from the Comox Valley Aquatic Club Sharks travelled to the Mies Schootman Invitational meet held at the UBC Thunderbirds Aquatic Centre – home to world record holders Brian Johns, Brent Hayden and Annamay Pierce.

This was their first long course meet of the season, meaning that all events were held in the 50 metre basin. Normally at this stage of the year the swimmers are training hard and swim “tired” – but to everyone’s surprise the Sharks did remarkably well. A total of 49 top eight finals swims and a medal tally of four gold, seven silver and 11 bronze is what the final results showed.

“I was very impressed with the everyone’s results," said head coach Albert Burgund. "I have been working them pretty hard and traditionally the first long-course meet nets very few best times, but this was a pleasant surprise – 39 best times in total.”

Of note were Kyle Brush going for six-of-six best times while Jordyn Ryan and Gabrielle Wolfe both posted five-of-six best times.

Congratulations to Kyle Brush, Drew Kuhnert, Brooke Lamoureux (1S,1B), Cheyenne Lindsey (1B), Kaitlin Lindsay, Mikhaila Lindsay (1B), Ben Neufeld (2G, 1S, 3B), Emma Neufeld (2B), Dylan O’Hara, Devin Pelletier (1B, 2S), Megan Rousseau (2B, 1 S), Jordyn Ryan (2G,1S), and Gabrielle Wolfe.

"The Sharks would like to express their gratitude to the people and businesses of the Comox Valley without whose generous support they could not achieve their goals," a CVAC spokesperson said.
