Training camps begin next week for four new Dice Hockey Leagues in the Comox Valley region.
The tabletop board game was designed by Courtenay residents David Leverton and Anne Doyle. They released the game this spring, and since that time, the game has now spread to several different parts of Canada.
“We are really excited about how fast the game has grown in the Canadian marketplace," said Leverton. "The game can now be played in board game cafes from as far away as Whitehorse, Yukon; Thunder Bay, Ontario; and Halifax, Nova Scotia.”
Now they are wanting to expand that success more to the home market. The couple recently returned from a major tabletop board game conference at the Calgary Convention Centre where they hosted their first-ever Dice Hockey tournament. Leverton also just returned from Thunder Bay where he has been teaching people how to play the new game.
“Next week we begin Dice Hockey training camps in four different locations throughout the Comox Valley region," Leverton said. "We are hoping to start a new 55+ League at the Evergreen Club, a College League at North Island College, as well as a new restaurant, and pub league if there is interest. Each league is scheduled to play once a week during the winter months.”
"The new board game is armchair hockey at it’s best," he added. "You get to be the coach, goaltender, defense, and offense on every play. The game is a fast-paced, roll-and-play strategy game, that also includes hockey action cards, and takes about one hour to play unless you go into overtime which is always exciting.”
