Early bloomer wins judo medals

Eleven-year-old Dakota Sanzana of the Comox Valley won a U14 silver and a U16 bronze medal at the Pacific International Judo Tournament in Vancouver. She was also part of the Vancouver Island team that won bronze.

The event drew athletes from across Canada. A team from Japan and the U.S. also participated.

Dakota, who is in Grade 6 at Ecole Robb Road in Comox, also won gold medals for individual and team in the U16 division at the BC Winter Games in Kamloops. Her older sister, Makayla, won an individual judo bronze and team gold in U16.
