GIVING IT A rip

The Crabs from Victoria and Top Notch Thunder from Campbell River joined six local teams for Woofy's Pet Foods third annual Wooden Bat Tournament on the weekend.

Usually this slo-pitch tournament depends on good defence as the games are low-scoring affairs. Teams must be getting used to the wooden bat concept as there were four games in double figures this year.

The Thunder won the A final 12-10 over the Brewers with both teams trading the lead during the course of the game. Thunder went 3-0 in round robin play and throttled Billy D's Benchwarmers 10-0 in the semifinals. The Brewers avenged an earlier round robin defeat to the Crabs as they were 4-1 winners in the semis before falling to the Thunder.

The Pirates (Wild) hung on after blowing a huge 9-0 lead to beat Peanut Gallery 10-8 in the B final. The Pirates won their semifinal game 6-1 over Berard's Plumbing to make it in to the finals while Peanut Gallery were 5-1 winners against the Coco Loco's before losing in the finals.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top two winners in each division and lots of prizes were passed out to indvidual players for fine plays or hits during the course of the tournament.

Mike Trimble (owner of Woofys) would like to thank all of the teams for participating and is hoping for a few more teams for the fourth annual next year.
